eh fuck it i'm not going to repost it here.

go join the whedonites in telling me i'm full of shit over at the DW community:

http://community.livejournal.com/doctorwho/2961559.html

while i'm happy there's a new DW series, the fact that a whole bunch of stupid people have latched on to it and eat up this drivel makes me wish it didn't happen and that DW died when BBC revoked Virgin's licence for novels.

New Track: Chillicothe Thug Life (feat. Donald Crunk)

and another demo track over at

http://www.myspace.com/stgsoundlabs

these two tracks feature the in-development STG Soundlabs Voltage Mini-Store and Trigger Mini-Store sequencers, which run off a DIN Sync buss and have an internal clock divider for quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes.

"Chillicothe Thug Life" is the first new original song i've got to have a significant part in for the past ten years. it's also possibly the world's first-ever berlin school gansta crunk track. this is a "collab" with The Degelman AKA Donald Crunk. it's about life here in Chillicothe, where the STG Fidelity Sound Lab is situated against the broadside of a meth lab slash foster farm.

i made the beats and chorus and took a minimoog solo, Donald Crunk brought the words and the concept. we produced the track together, and was tracked in one night and mixed by myself the second.

the bassline and Redshift-ey sequence line (the first two pitched elements) are the modular parts. the parts that sound like a Yamaha RX5, CR-8000, Minimoog, x0xb0x, Z1 electric piano, and Juno-6 are of those respective instruments.

it seems that Degelman and I made a rap song tonight, in the new genre of "berlin school crunk."

i'll get it mixed today, and uploaded tonight, so you can ignore it tomorrow. it's your loss. ha.

topic matter: chillicothe thug life.

bonus: it's also a demo for the new STG Soundlabs voltage and trigger sequencers, and the Yamaha RX-5 (the Chuck Senrick Special) which Skylab 2000 sold to me a couple weeks ago.

so after a couple of years being relegated to storage, The Big Rack is being called back into active duty in celebration of its sixth birthday. here she is, freshly stained and stuffed in late May of 2002 (and quite a doozy of a folder that is:)

the only gear which i still own which is pictured here is the Mackie mixer. i still have one of the Z1s and the power conditioner, however the Z1 actually belongs to Jim Coker and the power conditioner belongs to James McCaskey.

maybe if i'm hyper productive i'll get a pic of the new "ambient house power station" (maybe i should paint "Battersea" on the side of it) up tonight.

“These figures are quite alarming and urgent action is needed. Overall prevalence is up 2% and in some categories, such as 18-29 year old women in certain social classes, smoking levels are at 56%. The Government has set a target of ‘A Tobacco Free Society’ and these figures clearly show that no progress is being made despite the immense success of our workplace smoking legislation”, commented Prof Luke Clancy of ASH.

http://www.irishhealth.com/?level=4&id=13494

no progress equals no success. these people are delusional.

so i'm watching "Pump Up The Volume: The History of House"

and i need to mention that Derrick May seems like a totally awesome dude.

along with DJ Pierre, Marshall Jefferson, and Orbital.

bugaboos:

a) it was nice to see Youth, but The Orb only "invented" ambient house because it was originally a Jimmy Cauty/Alex Patterson thing. "Chill Out" by the KLF pre-dated "Fluffy Little Clouds" by 11 months, which is an _eternity_ within that history.

b) Goldie is a bit of a twat. so he released some drum n bass in 1995 ... LTJ Bukem dropped "Demon's Theme" in 1991. Goldie got interviewed to hell, and Bukem wasn't mentioned.

3) the inclusion of "UK Garage" as the current sound of dance music is pretty funny. especially when the documentary doesn't mention the Paradise Garage at all.

part 3 is well naff. parts 1 and 2 are really fucking good. that's my review.

no ponies, but a poll instead

i have recently become enamoured of the washed bags of green beans in the produce department. i've never been one for any more than the occasional potato or tortilla chip/crisp, so this is quite nice.

"baby" (ie: a sanded portion of) carrots have always been around, but i'm not too into root vegetables, except for the lighter ones such as radishes. i've always been far too lazy to cut and wash the green beans (cut/wash potatoes? no problemo. beans? tedious as a motherfucker) so this is quite exciting for me.

View Poll: #1174647

okay, so that was the most NA of the RTD era so far IMHO. this means that i also think it was definitely positive, though i'm not going to wax poetically about it. i have no complaints about the storytelling or acting so far this season.

however i should note that the fact that Murray Gold's newest arrangement of the theme, which didn't bother me the first 10 times i heard it, now bugs the fuck out of me because the mid-bass line (the plucked string thing) has now been thrown out of the equation to make room for more post-ST:TNG orchestra shit.

i had more written here but it was just some rambling.

EARTHQUAKE!

apparently there was an earthquake in Olney an hour ago, and while some Chicago people and Indianapolis people were woken up by it, i didn't notice. i may have been driving, walking, sitting, or dropping super fat beats in the Sound Lab. i have no idea, and no recollection of the earth shaking for 10 seconds.

the last earthquake we felt here was in 2004. i remember when it happened i was playing the Conn home organ in the STG Fidelity Sound Lab, while Devon Greene was hanging out. i didn't notice that either.

i need to stop all this "doing shit" stuff, because apparently when the end times come if i'm not sitting on my ass in a couch with the lights off and the television shut off i won't notice.

or you all might be smoking crack, and just imagined the earthquake.

pay no mind to the fact that when the New Madrid fault goes, we're all fucked. let's not think about that.

AHMW2008 - The Experience (a photo gallery)

here it is, the yearly gallery:

http://suitandtieguy.com/sights/ahmw2008/

in addition to photos of the event itself (not just gear but getting to see Horton in the flesh) there are photos of:

- the thing that i drove over near Gary that poked a hole in my rear bumper fish-hook style, and drug itself for a few hundred yards behind my car.
- buying combustion chamber cleaner at the third largest Wal-Mart in the universe, in Portage IN. (it's so big you can see the curvature of the ceiling!)
- waiting for the sequencer prototypes' FedEx delivery at the chinese buffet in Angola.
- Cary speculating upon the ownability of the Ramada terminals
- the place to buy coffee at when in Angola (hint: it's not Starbuck's)
- rebooting the stg/interceptor (occasional misfire triggers error code which causes fuel/air mix to go wacky)
- thrift store and lunch in Elkhart
- rebooting the stg/interceptor again (it happened 5 times over the course of the weekend)
- the fine job of remodeling Yum! does on Kentucky Fried Chicken stores.
- ridiculous retail in Mishawaka such as "your genuine neighborhood shop", completely fictitious second floors, a monument to a heron, a monument to Edward DeBartolo, The Bling Kiosk, and a Prisoner-style information kiosk in front of a giant mural of a new addition to the mall called "The Village", and photos of a Martin's grocery store which is so in love with itself i was accused of corporate espionage (!!) by the store manager while i was there. apparently they're so in love with their own upscaleness that they believe Kroger, Meijer, and Aldi routinely send overweight spies wearing black suits to take detail photos of their high-concept grocery experience.
- having a celebratory congac with Ryan and Josh for getting through the week (it was a bit stressful.) they also made dinner for me and the shirt Paco deBongo's wife was wearing at the event.
