what a typical worthless music journalist. i'm so thankful for the internet for marginalising these assholes:

"A good example: though I've always heard plenty of talk about the utter awfulness of such infamous albums as Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music (a double album of guitar feedback and white noise) or Deep Purple's Concerto For Group And Orchestra (don't ask), I can now listen to them for nothing, and have an opinion of my own.

They're both terrible, incidentally, but that isn't the point."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8330633.stm

well let's see the first is amazing because of what it represents, and the second is one of those beautiful things that happened back in the 60s when rock musicians (who at the time had some real skills) wanted to stretch beyond the place culture was trying to shoehorn them into.

IMHO The Nice's Five Bridges Suite was far superior and predated it, but Concerto for Group and Orchestra is a fine record.

It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.
i might upload some more pics later, but here's the primary report: Chris Sloan and I went to Iowa City and had a good weekend. the power was crappy so i had to deal with equipment failure but i got by.

apparently i played a "minimal dark electro" set. whatever that means. regardless of what it was, according to what i was told by observers i am to assume i can throw down a worthwhile "live PA" set even under duress. this was good to hear.

there were a lot of complimentary and friendly people at the event and it was good to be in a situation like that again. i for one hope that i see The Half-Naked Indian again, even though i don't want to see him anywhere near half-naked.

i also got to introduce Chris (aka pasulel) to Bishop's Cafeteria and Buffet, and chaircrusher took this photo, made this recording, and met us for lunch at a place called Panchero's that makes their own tortillas. pretty cool weekend all around IMHO.

<lj-embed id="66" /> Earthdance 2009, Iowa City IA USA by suitandtieguy

this one was in response to a comment that i made saying that i loved the performance but i'd rather hear it on a GX-1 instead:

ebbwvalleys has replied to your comment on Max Takano - Yamaha Electone ELX-1: "Bach-Gigue":

u have to be kidding, there is no comparison between ELX1 and GX-1, the yamaha being far superior

and then this gem:

lothianpar has made a comment on The World's Biggest Trance Lead?:

you're a fucking gimp and you need to get out more.

I"challenge you" to get laid....
