quote from a recent forum post of mine, reposted here. in regards to my desire for old instruments.
if i own something because someone i liked used it and i wish to reach a deeper understanding of where the art i like came from and the only way i can do it is by listening to the records and acquiring (or in my case, making) the gear and learning how to use it and then making music with it, it's not fucking nostalgia it's fucking EDUCATION.

this is of course rather funny because I ACTUALLY OWN A STRAW BOATER.

yet it shrunk too small to fit my head at an outdoor John Scofield show 9 years ago and i can no longer wear it.
